Surfing
Our Surfing School is based at Newgale. West Wales is well known as one of Britain's top surfing areas and the clean water and Atlantic swells rolling into the spectacular beaches of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park make it an ideal venue for the first time surfer or expert alike.
Courses range from half a day to 5 days. In your first half day session you will cover basic surf safety and after a short coaching session on the beach you will be paddling out through surf, turning and catching breaking waves. In waist deep water, riding lying down and getting used to steering before having a go at surfing standing up. If you’re fairly fit and athletic you should crack it in this first session and even if you’re still surfing lying down you’ll have got the massive adrenaline rush of being picked up and fired in towards the beach by your first wave. Even if you’re not that strong or athletic (or young!!!) in a full day you will probably get your first few seconds of stand–up surfing after a well earned rest for lunch and re-charging tired muscles. A 5-day course will have you improving take offs, riding larger waves, standing up for longer and moving up to intermediate manoeuvres. This course gives you the chance to try other forms of surfing like boogie boarding and body surfing. Boards are matched to your size and weight.
Improver Courses
If you’ve already happy with the basics, can stand up O.K. and want to learn more then you can join an improvers course, usually afternoons. Improve your board control and steering, ride bigger waves further out to sea; feel the speed of riding the green water of an unbroken wave; trim for speed, learn forehand and backhand; top and bottom turns and cutbacks. Watch out for our evening sessions.
