Our crew members not only keep our ship afloat, but are on hand to ensure that you stay afloat too! You will meet your personal crew member when you sign in for your activity and they will be with you all the way, guiding, instructing, advising and rescuing you too, if you need it – so you will be in very safe hands.
|Gareth Reynolds - our Admiral
There has been a Reynolds sailing out of Dale for over 50 years and Gareth is the third generation of this local family to run a water-based business from The Boathouse.
A fully qualified instructor, Gareth is a former member of Wales' Youth Sailing Team and genuine water-sports fanatic, who can be found getting wet in Dale in all weathers and at all times of the year. As Admiral of our fleet, Gareth oversees the activities offered here in Dale as well as running the boat trips, cruises, sea safaris and private charters to and around the nearby islands of Skomer, Skokholm and Grassholm. Click on the Boat Trips link to join Gareth on one of his spell-binding voyages.
|Sam Butts - Ship's Captain
As Centre Manager, Sam keeps our ship steady. He is a qualified Senior Instructor, his teaching is thorough, and his enthusiasm for anything on the water is infectious. His first love is kayaking and he gets out for a splash about whenever he can. With many years experience working with able-bodied and disabled students worldwide, Sam is the “Go-To-Guy” for reliable and sensible help. So whatever you want to learn, Sam can sort you out a fun and memorable experience that will leave YOU feeling that yes, you CAN do it!
|Briony Evans - Second Mate
A qualified Senior Instructor, Briony ensures that the Captain's orders are followed to the letter, giving all students the very best instruction and making sure that their day runs smoothly. Her years of experience working with young people of all abilities means Briony is well-placed to help you achieve your goal. So whatever you want to try, Briony will help you go home feeling exhilarated, proud and pleased with what YOU have achieved.
|Lotte Wood - Ship's Parrot
Just like the fabled Ship's Parrot, Lotte likes to make a noise - and she certainly has plenty to squawk about! An experienced Senior Instructor, Lotte teaches sailing, windsurfing, and all paddlesports and she brings out the very best in her students. Patient, funny, noisy (as we said before) and giggly on the one hand, whilst offering professional, organised and clear tuition sessions on the other, this Parrot has it all!
|Lee Smith - our very own Pirate
Trained to look after people, this Pirate can calm any mutiny before it has chance to cause a problem. A qualified Senior Instructor, Lee keeps an eye on all of our crew members to ensure that our ship sails dead-straight and doesn't get into difficulty. With many years' people experience, he knows when to encourage and when to take the strain off his students to make sure they have the very best time here with us. So "come along me hearties" and have some fun in Dale!
|Dylan Ward - the Beach Bum we all wanna be
Currently studying at University, Dylan instructs for us whenever he can get to Dale. With a family holiday home just up the road, Dylan spends his summers here, making the most of the beach, wind, surf & water in this very special place. There is not much on the water that Dylan isn’t good at: he is an experienced and talented all-rounder, as well as being a qualified sailing and windsurf instructor.
Who wouldn't love Dylan? He is the tanned and healthy-looking “beach-bum” we all want to be!
|Katrin Watkin-Rees - Ship's Cat
With a smile to beat them all, our Kat is everyone's friend. She is a qualified dinghy instructor and, although very busy studying medicine, she still finds time to get out on the water and pass on her sailing abilities to anyone keen to learn. Being practical and capable, thoughtful, funny and trustworthy, she has the purr-fect skills to put you at ease when learning something new. So come along and let her make you smile too!
|Zac Orehawa - Powder Monkey
Zac is our Powder Monkey. He has been sailing since forever and is a past member of the Welsh National Squad. Being a computer and technical boff, Zac likes to discover how things work and is great on theory - as well as being incredibly practical. In true Powder Monkey style, Zac will make whichever watersport activity you choose to try, go with a bang!
|Sue Twidale - Cook & Bottle-washer
Sue joined us here in Dale to keep her close to the beach and the people who, just like herself some 12 years ago, come to Pembrokeshire to make the most of this breath-taking place. She is the land-lubber of the team who provides a welcome mat for our customers and visitors alike. Taking bookings, hiring out equipment, running the shop and liaising with members of the crew, as well as providing tourist information to anyone who asks; her enthusiasm for Pembrokeshire is obvious - why not let some of it rub off on you?
|Tristan Ward - Chief Engineer
If something needs doing, just ask Tris - he can turn his hand to most things, both artistically and scientifically and will find a way to sort it out. Working in the Centre shop and stores, keeping the ship afloat is part of his job and he will respond quickly and efficiently whenever his help is needed. So whether you want to try something on, buy something new, sort out equipment hire, book an activity, or just need help getting out on the water, Tristan and his cheerful grin is happy to help, so that yes, YOU can do it too!
|Luke Warlow - Cabin Boy
Luke is a Dale lad who has been actively involved with the Centre since joining the kids sailing club. He attends Milford Haven School and helps us out during the week-ends and throughout the school holidays. Having sailed through all the stages of the RYA Youth syllabus, Luke is now progressing towards his Safety Boat and Assistant Instructor certificates.
Sue’s right-hand man on land, Luke sorts the kit and safety equipment required by hirers and students alike. Thanks to him, all courses commence efficiently and our hirers don’t lose any time in getting out on the water to do what they came here for - every centre should have a Luke!
|Will Chatting - Stowaway
Our Stowaway Will has been holidaying with his family in Dale ever since he was a Stowatot! He is a hands-on member of our Centre crew throughout the summer and is training to become a dinghy instructor of the future. When not in hiding, Will is kept busy fitting bouyancy aids and using his muscles to deliver equipment to our customers in double-quick time. His bouncy personality makes him great fun to be around so we really prefer our stowaway to stay out in the open!
We are often scanning the horizon for more ship-mates, so if you think you might have what it takes to become a member of our crew, complete your details on our Contact form and we can take it from there.
West Wales Watersports is a fully accredited RYA training centre with highly qualified and experienced instructors. There are a range of courses on offer to cater for all ages and abilities from beginners to experienced sailors.
