Course content: Planning a day cruise, boat preparation, boat handling, pilotage, passage making, man overboard.
Pre-course experience: Boat handling to the standard of the Level 2 Powerboat Handling course with a coastal endorsement.
Assumed knowledge: Knowledge to the level of Day Skipper theory is recommended. It is strongly recommended that candidates hold a first aid certifciate and a VHF/SRC operators certifciate.
Ability after the course: Able to plan and carry out short coastal passages in daylight
Duration: 2 days, which runs from 0930 - 1630 both days.
Group size: 3:1 Instructor
Restrictions: Participants must be confident in open water.
Age: Minimum age 16
(If any of the participants are under 18 years of age the parent or guardian must sign on their behalf on the booking form.)
Clothing required: Please bring with you suitable clothing for the time of year and weather conditions. Jeans and Wellington boots are not suitable and you will not be permitted to take part wearing these items. Footwear is NOT provided and you are required to bring trainers or aqua shoes to wear.Showers and changing facilities are provided on site.
Special information: West Wales Wind Surf and Sailing is situated within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and there is plenty for the spectator to do.
Meal Arrangements: There is a café serving hot and cold meals within the centre building. There is also a waterside pub (although it is recommended not to drink alcohol whilst participating in Watersports). There are plenty of places to enjoy a packed lunch.
Weather Restrictions: We will continue with the course only if it is safe to do so.
Other information: Dale has an excellent water quality and is a blue flag beach.
