RYA Youth Sailing Stage 1 (Coastal)

A beginners' course for under 16's. It is suited to the complete novice, the RYA stage 1 course introduces the basics of sailing a single handed dinghy in a safe and controlled environment. This course is tailor made to participants under 16 years of age

Course content: Launching and recovery, steering, parts of the boat, basic sailing

Pre-course experience: None

Assumed knowledge: None

Ability after course: Able to steer and understand basic principles

Duration: 2 days (can be done as a series of half days)

Group size: maximum 6 in any group

Restrictions: Participants must be confident in open water

Age: 8 - 16
For participants under 18 years of age the parent or guardian must sign on their behalf on the booking form

Clothing required: Please bring with you suitable clothing for the time of year and weather conditions. Jeans and Wellington boots are not suitable and you will not be permitted to take part wearing these items. Footwear is NOT provided and you are required to bring trainers or aqua shoes to wear.
Showers and changing facilities are provided on site.

Special information: West Wales Wind Surf and Sailing is situated within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and there is plenty for the spectator to do

Meal Arrangements: There is a café serving hot and cold meals within the centre building. There is also a waterside pub (although it is recommended not to drink alcohol whilst participating in Watersports). There are plenty of places to enjoy a packed lunch.

Weather Restrictions: All courses will proceed according to the weather conditions on the day and if it is safe to do so

Other information: Dale has excellent water quality and is a blue flag beach
